Ube Pudding Recipe

Ube also known as purple yam is a tuberous vegetable. They grow in tropical countries like the Philippines. They are very easy to It is starchy with bright purple flesh. Its sweet-vanilla-like flavor and nutty texture are very tasty. We use this a lot in making different delicacies, and other sweet treats back home in my country the Philippines.

One of these sweet treats is the Ube or Purple Yam Pudding. The traditional way of making it is by mashing or pounding them. It is mixed with coconut milk and sugar. Some use condensed milk, honey, or any sweetener available there is. They are usually served as desserts or snacks. Because of its variant color, we also use them as food colors for baked foods, such as “Ube Bars”, pandesal, glutinous rice cakes, and a lot more.

This recipe is very easy to make. It does not involve any cooking or baking at all. You may pound them until they turn to mush. You may also use a blender like me! To learn more, join me in making them! Let’s get started!

Ube or Purple Yam Pudding Recipe


Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Raw Honey (you may also use condensed milk)
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 5 oz purple yams or Ube, steamed and cubed (you may also, boil, bake, or roast them)

Items You’ll Need

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups, bowls, spoons
  • Serving bowls • Rubber spatula
  • Butter knife • Mixing bowls
  • Steamer (if you wish to steam the yams)
  • Large pot for boiling water

Instructions

Using a butter knife, trim ends and peel the steamed purple yam. Then cut them into cubes.

Combine the ingredients

Place the cubed yams in a blender. Pour the coconut milk and honey.

Make the pudding

When all of the ingredients are in the blender, pulse them until smooth. You may pause at any time to pulse the solids to the bottom. Then continue to pulse until the mixture has turned into a thicker smoothie-like consistency. Transfer into a serving bowl. Serve warm or chilled. Refrigerate for up to 5 days. Enjoy!
